Leap Day

I took full advantage of both having mum here and an extra day in February to meet O for lunch and do a spot of shopping today. We enjoyed a delicious lunch of trusty falafel and hummus at 12 Chairs, which was slightly less crowded than on a weekend, and then I headed to Anthropologie¬†where I picked up this shirt for my spring look. I’m going to pair it with my colored jeans. I can’t wait for the warmer weather.

Date Night

Another brilliant perk of having my mum to stay is that you have a live in babysitter for the week. O and I took full advantage and headed out this evening to our favorite local restaurant; Vinegar Hill House. Delicious food, delicious company.

Orla Kiely for Uniqlo

Yesterday whilst shopping with mum in Soho, I checked out the new Orla Kiely for Uniqlo range and it did not disappoint. There were lots of gorgeous summer clothes in her signature prints (tunics, vests, t shirts, shirts etc.) but it was the accessories that I loved best. I picked up a couple of gorgeous summer scarves that I’m looking forward to wearing on a spring walk in her signature stem print – both for $12.90! Bargain.

Preparing for an important visitor

Yay, my mummy arrives later this afternoon and I’ve been busy preparing the apartment to help her feel comfortable. As New York apartments are usually notoriously small (ours being no exception) you have to be savvy when having guests.I obviously want my guests to feel comfortable but don’t have the space for an extra bed.¬†With this in mind we recently purchased the brilliant and genius sleeping ottoman from BoConcept. By day it’s a stylish footstool/ table (you can choose from hundreds of fabrics and we were able to match it perfectly to our grey felted wool sofa) and by night it folds out to a single bed with a temper mattress. You could buy two and push them together to make a double. I think it’s incredibly comfortable and just hope mum thinks the same.

Continuing the good work

Since I’m feeling much lighter and energetic after my cleanse I’ve decided to keep up my good work by starting the day with one of my favorite breakfasts – a mixed berry smoothie. It’s really easy to make, delicious and full of goodness (we even gave Rory his own this morning).

The Egan Mixed Berry Smoothie Recipe

– 3 ice cubes

– 1/2 an avocado

– a good handful of frozen (or fresh if they’re in season) berries

– a scoop of greens powder

– a scoop of whey protein

– once all of the ingredients are in the blender, fill nearly up to the level of ingredients with coconut water and blend.

An Ash Wednesday Cleanse

Since today marks the start of Lent, a traditional time of fasting, I’ve decided to do a one day cleanse. I’ve read much about the BluePrint Cleanse (also featured in Vogue’s best dressed edition) and my ‘healthy’ friends rave about it. I decided to put it to the test and ordered the Level 1 Renovation, one day cleanse. I’ll receive six juices (all with adequate calories and nutrients so I won’t feel starving) and I simply have to drink them in the labelled order. Apparently “This “Class-A” cleanse will leave you addicted to feeling amazing and wanting more.” I’m sold.

Uncle Henry’s Birthday

This evening O and I headed out to the Lower East Side to meet friends for a spot of supper and some cocktails for Uncle Henry’s (NYC) birthday. We started the evening in the ever stylish and delicious Freemans where of course I had to indulge in their famous Mac ‘n’ Cheese with a spot of pink champagne. Then we headed to a couple of bars for more cocktails and a good catch up. A great birthday and a lovely evening.
